You seemed to surprise this cluster of women who are SEAL fans so I'll start by saying how I got interested in the SEALs. Some folks here are from military families, but I was completely clueless about the military even though my dad and mom were both WWII vets. I've also been a pacifist since I can remember, and a student of Buddhism, too, so 18 months ago if you'd said I'd be studying SEALism I would have said "no way!"
I watched GI Jane last year because I liked Viggo Mortensen, and Kerrit helped inspire me to write a short story about Lt O'Neil and Master Chief Urgayle, set 6 weeks after the movie ended. It's partly an analysis of what happened in the film and partly a romance and partly some thoughts on the hurdles she might face now that she's finished the basic (BUD/S-like) training.
It started as a 5-page lark, but by the time I finished I had done several months of reading and research on SEALs and the military and the story was around 40,000 words long. From there I bumped into Suz's books and got hooked on them.
Okay, ladies, anybody else want to share or are you going to leave me dangling now? :)
