Since there is a vast amount of people on this board from numerous places I would like to ask if anyone knows of a doctor that deals with amputees. I have a friend at work who's daughter was diagnosed last year with spinal meningitis (sp), she survived, thank God, but had to have both her legs amputated below the knee. Her right leg has been giving her pain. She developed neuroma (the nerve ending in her leg has become enlarged) and she has been taking steroid shots. Well, they can't do that anymore. I'm told you can only do this a few times. Now they want to do radio frequency (shock the nerve ending). This should give her about about six months pain free. In the meantime, Rachel (mother) wants to get second opinions. The doctors she has talked to here says that they don't want to cut the nerve away. This will cause neurmitis (sp) which is more painful. Does anyone here know of any doctor that may specializes in amputees or with neuroma. She mentioned a doctor in Florida and will try there. I told her I would ask if any one here knows of a doctor. Her daughter is 19 and she feels that there has to be a better answer. I don't know, so if anyone knows please let me know.
