I think we tend to have a Norman Rockwell view of our past.Think of indentured servitude,think cowboys and Indians, and all that lawlessness, think the gangs of New York, slavery, think civil war, child labor, think about what our forefathers did to Native Americans with reservations,Scarlet fever,the Chicago fire,the San Francisco earthquake, think WWI, prohibition,the great depression, think Al Capone and gangsters, diphtheria, smallpox, WWII, internment camps, polio, the Korean war, McCarthyism, segregation, Vietnam, think the cold war.......so the "good old days" had their share of natural disasters,lethal threats, and morality issues .
