I have heard allot about Gulf War veterans becoming very ill after they returned. Many serious illnesses believed by the veterans as a result of exposure to chemical bombs exploded by American ordinance people. Also from burning oil fields. Some Gulf War veterans believe their children's birth defects, are a result of their service in the Gulf, from their chemical exposure. Have you done any work with these veterans groups? It sounds like Veterans Dept. is treating the Gulf War veterans who have become sick since their return the same way they treated Vietnam Veterans with Agent Orange illnesses.
