Battle Fields

are toxic waste dumps, particularly the modern battle field that can have a lot of depleted uranium. The problem with the chemical weapons dumps that were destroyed was that they weren't destroyed by people specially trained in disposing of chemical munitions--one of the biggest rules is you have to top load the disposal--all explosives on top so the force and heat of the explosion is downward to ensure total conflagration of the chemical and no dispersal--so that wasn't done...combine the chemical with all the polution plus untested vaccines with a known adverse reaction when combined with deet etc etc, I don't see anyway you don't seriously harm a significant # of folks.
