Internment without trial Northern Ireland

Don't know if this would be a good thing for you to look at.Internment without trial of Irish terror suspects by the British Government. Knee Jerk reaction to Terror attacks. Juryless trials there are comparisons to be made.

The one thing I do know is that internment without trial was the biggest recruiting tool the terrorists ever had.

Some of the biggest critics of this were US politicians who frequently accused British Governments of abusing human rights in Long Kesh and MaGilligan. camps.

What it also did was to give the paramiltaries more public support in their own communities that actually instead of preventing the spread of their message actually gave it a wider audience and more young people flocked to join.

This is a very potted explanation of a very complex issue but I think the comparison is valid.

Now at the time this was all happening I was a young army wife with three small kids who spent lots of time searching under her car for devices before getting in. It was not a great time to be a service spouse we were legitimate military targets according to the IRA and we spent most of the time on our own as our husbands usually did one Ireland tour a year.

Internment without trial is never a good thing and in the long term which I am afraid any war on terror is, a long term battle. The effects can be counter productive to what you want to achieve.

Good Luck with the assignment I am late doing an essay on World Religions!!!!
