I have as a friend says an "uneducated palate". As a beverage manager for a hotel chain he tried his best to find a red wine I would enjoy...never happened.
I will try any new wine but I don't see the point of aquiring a taste for something that I don't like. Why should I learn to appreciate a wine that costs 6 times as much per bottle as my favorite. Berringer White Zinfandel :) I say it's better that I prefer Marti & Rossi Asti Spumante to Moet & Chadon White Star saves me $15.00-20.00 a bottle. So for me either I like it or I don't. But I have never been to wine country and would love to go sounds fun.
