No matter the age we get and all my boys still do:

Apple
Satsuma Orange
Shiny Pennies
Handkerchief
Christmas Cracker
Chocolate
selection of Nuts
Small puzzle book

Don't ask me why these items my grandmother told me her parents did this and it has passed down, my grandson will have a stocking with these items in along with all his presents.
