In terms of valuing human life we do make distinctions,we do assign good and evil to those lives. So when one "evil" terrorist kills 3,000 plus presumably "good" people. We have no qualms about his or his followers loss of life. The reality of war isn't as neat for sure but that is how we justify it.
well, the thing we need to all learn is the concept of forward thinking. Start by teaching it in our schools but of course you'd have to educate our educators first :) Now do I see us at a point where we can say long term progress negates short term loss of life ? That's a really hard one. I can see the logic of it but could I handle the reality of it.
With regard to what we have invested in security measures which I am considering part of the fight I think Tom has shown us how ineffective some are. ie his question what is the difference between a bomb on board an aircraft and one in the security cue?
So some educating could be done by just asking the right questions. I have no easy answers for the how of the edcuation but I understnd the why.
