Re: I beg to differ

Yeah, there are a lot of people who want to come here. Who only want a better life. There are also a lot of people "in this country" who are desperate for a better life for themselves and their children. Who are homeless, hungry, sick and without hope.

Can I have compassion for people in other countries? Sure. But, is my first loyalty to America and Americans? Danm straight. When Americans are fed, housed, clothed, cared for, educated, secured, have medical care, retirement, clean environment, etc ... then I'll be more than happy to spend my excess money (or even not so excess money) on my neighbors. But you take care of your family first. I'm not saying that everying in America has to be 100% perfect. It's never going to be because we are dealing with humans and we're not perfect. But with so many things in our own country that need taking care of that's what we need to be doing first. Then put out a welcome mat for others to come.

Out of curiosity, how are you getting that I'm suggesting that we can 'solve the problem by pointing the finger elsewhere'? By offering one comment at the beginning of this part of the thread suggesting that one way of filling recruiting shortage is to tap the illegal immigrants crossing our border? I still stand by that being one option.

I also agree with something that Tom(?) said, about the birthcanal being one form of entry into this country. I think the people in power need to have a a very personal stake in any war. It's just too easy to send 'other people's children' to war. It should be a last choice not a first one.
