is EXACTLY the reason there should be a mandatory "draft" for all citizens as part of their responsibilities to truly enjoy their rights. This would encourage and somewhat require people to gain knowledge and encourage political interest so that everyone is aware of all the facts and everyone is interested in national debates. How many people watched the presidential candidates debate? How would this change if everyone's lives or the lives of everyone's children were affected?
People who have a vested interest in their nation are far more likely to be informed and become active, thus forcing their representatives to actually follow through on claims and understand their constituents.
