but if you do what you're required to do you fail? You are required to stay with your buddy--it means more than failing--never leave your buddy...period. (Everyone--instructors, students knows that the failure is not the students fault)

Does that mean that the non-quitting partner needs to not let the quitter make it to shore, but throws his butt into a boat instead? Yes and no--the boat will generally beat the student to the beach--though people rarely ( I never saw it) quite during timed swims and runs--its the untimed could go forever thigns that illicit the rings

Seems kinda unfair to punish a guy for doing what he's been ordered to do.

Or am I totally missing the point of the exercise? Nah--battle field isn't fair, fair doesn't matter--just your buddy and the mission
