Trying to remember what I said so bear with me. I thought you expressed very well that he became a very different person that he would have been without the obstacles. I mourned for the man he might have been. I wished for a happy ending. I know that there are none in real life but still something better for him. You have spurred me to get to the library to reread the part with his girlfriend. Wish I'd known you had read this in Tampa when it was fresher in my mind. I do agree that his raw, brutally honest style made his book compelling and hard to forget. Have really enjoyed this discussion. Thanks.
