Should military memoirs stick to

"just the facts ma'am" and leave the personal, more touchy-feely stuff to a different sort of book? Does today's reader demand a look at a person's personal life as well as their professional accomplishments - and is that fair? I'm not saying that reading what you read wouldn't curl my hair as well - I'm just wondering if he should have included it at all (or his editor, if it wasn't solely his choice). Janet
