In the spirit of Romance...

Posted by Kathy S. on 9/29/2005, 9:45:25
How about those of us who have/had a spouse or significant other share their "How we met or fell in love story." I enjoyed reading Samantha's HS romance story and Aly & Brian's story and I know many others did too.

I'll start:

I met Martin 18 years ago in the most boring class known to man. We were both taking a graduate level QMB class (Quantitative Methods in Business). The professor could out monotone the science teacher on The Wonder Years. I was working during the day and this was a night class, so I needed something to focus on to stay awake. The class was about 80% men, so I just looked around, found a cute guy and that took my mind off of the boring drone of the profs voice. The class was 3 hours long with 2 15 min. breaks. I became friends with another lady and she, Martin & I started talking during the breaks. Martin told a friend of his about me and his friend knew me because I was dating one of his Frat brothers. He told Martin, "Don't ask her out, she's engaged to A." Which I wasn't. I had been dating A for the past 2 years and he was a nice guy, but I didn't want to marry him. I didn't know about this, so one day I asked Martin over to study. Since he thought I was engaged, he thought I really meant study. The poor guy was clueless, my well laid seduction plans went to waste. At this point I figure, he's dating someone (which the mutual friend/frat boy confirmed) or just not interested. No big deal, whatever, we can just be friends. We had so much in common, I really enjoyed talking to him. The other lady fixes me up with this guy and it was the blind date from He//. She drops the class and I was telling Martin about this guy who was so boring, etc. and he finally gets that I'm not engaged. He waited until the end of the semester to ask me out, it was one of those, "my other class is going to the raw bar to celebrate the end of the semester, do you want to meet me there?" So, I went and that was weird, because another guy I knew (we had both gone on 2 college ski trips) didn't know I was there with Martin and was seriously hitting on me. So, I said to Martin, "how about tomorrow night, we go out alone." And he took me on a wonderful date, dinner at a Mexican restaurant, then to a Jazz club, then back to my Apt. We spent the night together and it was the most amazing night I had ever spent with anyone. It was one of those, "this is perfect, goldilocks moments." Not long after that he asked me if I would like to sail around to world with him someday. I read the book Dove in jr. high and always dreamed of sailing around the world. I found my soul mate and next week we celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.
