I believe you can challenge those in power the US without resorting to violent means. When you have have a more tyranical form of government without our freedoms that maynot be possible.

I agree with your prof, if you join a revoulutionary group who plans to overthrow the government by violent means you should be prepared to give your life.

I can't think of wy you would resort to that with a democracy when what you would be replacing it with could be far worse.

Political philospohies look great on paper.ie.
Democracy "Rule by the people" ..how many of the 120 democracies in the world are perfect? How many are what we in the US would consider tolerable.

Then you have communism...vey humane on paper.
"To each according to their needs from each according to their abilities" The practical application of political philosophies is often corrupt.
