Bren, are you speaking about a specific case here?

or just the general application of this Louisiana statute?

I wondered if there an incident in particular, because from a legal perspective the phrase "during a state of emergency" becomes critical to the application and therefore defines the intention and purpose of such a law.

Further my understanding is (???) that up to this point, law enforcement has not gone door to door in LA., but only confisicated weapons that were being carried publicly or where they themselves were in need of that fire power.

Beacuse that is critical, is a link from Wikipedia relating to "State of Emergency". (also, more under the US in that link) and it's "normal" under specific circumstances, to have civil liberties take a temporary hit for the greater purpose of maintaining law and order until a return to a normal status quo is established.

While Federal law can override State law, it would be not only very surprising but highly unlikely to see it done here, simply because Louisianna is in the throes of a dire emergency.

And I'm certain there will be a landslide of lawsuits for decades to come, from all phases (negligence issues, go't, law enforcement) of this nighmare for them. The upside of that will hopefully be that because their courts will be so inundated, they may automatically toss all those lacking merit, in the simple interest of judicial progress.

However, now if there was in fact, a door to door search that I'm unaware of please email me a link I'd be interested in looking at it. Thanks!
