So can I take it a step further? Since you would not be involved in the political response, would you retaliate personally? You did say you would try to remember that "the best way to destroy him may not be to meet him." What effect would private retaliation have on terrorism? If you as a highly trained individual decided to take out the person or persons directly responsible for pulling the trigger, does that undermine national terrorism policy? E.G. A terrorist knows you are a former SEAL and kidnaps, tortures and kills your wife. If you personally took out that one man, but not the "machine", what happens? Would the terrorists see it as a more personal act and fear for themselves rather than viewing it all as part of "The Cause"? Could this direct personal response short circuit the "nation as an entity" mentality or would it have no effect? Do you have this response already in your manuscript or did I get to make you think? :-)
