It looks to me like all the authors you enjoy write really compelling characters.
I know it might not be your preference to read historical romances, but if you want books with terrific (mostly military) heroes, you might want to try Carla Kelly. She writes Regencies -- pretty different from the authors on your list -- but her characters are just really wonderful.
She's one of my all time favorites.
Another great book that continues to haunt me is Robert Parker's DOUBLE PLAY. (I think it's called DOUBLE PLAY... Titles tend to haunt me less accurately than the stories. GGG) It's his book that has Jackie Robinson as one of the characters. I'm not a big baseball fan, but I really loved this book.
Also Dean Kootz's ODD THOMAS, and his recent seqeul FOREVER ODD. You gotta read ODD THOMAS first, though.
