Family as a team

Posted by Trudy on 1/6/2006, 12:13:57, in reply to "Previous Tom Team Post"
Sure enjoyed everyone's thoughts...

What caused me to really think about Tom's original post is that in my experiences in the working world....I have never been able to pick my team....I usually found myself on one, and it sure seemed there was no reason whatsoever as to why we were together. Am I unique or have you found yourself in a team by accident?

That's why I think a family is more like every team I've ever been on.....day to day, yes...parents are the boss (and they take turns in that role)and everyone functions somewhat individually (I have older kids now)but the day to day tasks get done.......but in a time of crisis or when a task (mission like putting a roof on the house because DH doesn't want to spend $) has to get done: look at the skill sets of each member and take on the job you can do....what really made me think of this is this line from Tom's original (I saw this and BAM...my family team hit me)..."Keep in mind, the purpose of a team is not about equality or sharing the work load/responsibility, it is about accomplishing tasks within the parameters of uncompromisable values."

This one statement describes my life when I get home....it's not equal/shared but accomplishes the tasks I can't compromise on....and if I'm the one to do those tasks...they are important to me and I do them. Of course, my doing those tasks may remove me from doing YOUR important task...but, like me, you'll figure out a way to get them done. Once I learned that lesson, my marriage and life because much easier.
