Are we REALLY helping?

I doubt that we actually "help" anyone without doing so in service to ourselves. If our "help" is simply a byproduct of self-serving actions, is that still considered helping? I don't think so.

If we were so benevolent as a country, we'd be much more active in countries that really need the help and who have been asking for it for years, i.e. Africa (as mentioned earlier). And I would like to think that our help left the "helpee" in better shape than before the help, and as we know from history, that's not usually the case.
