Yeah, but....

the easiest way to get at the mother is through the daughter. She's the one the mother is pushing so hard. She's 'mother's little star'.

AND... the kid needs to learn not to pull this crap. Good chance to teach an excellent object lesson to not only her but all the other kids watching events unfold about not lying.

Kristie has a good point... and it would be a good 'action' to have taken against her. Put her 'back' with the 3rd graders where she belongs. It would actually be better for the kid and would drive the mother nuts.
