My dad was drafted into the Army. My mother was not allowed to enlist.

My mom wanted to be a fighter pilot, but they wouldn't accept women into the program. She somehow got talked into college for elementary Ed, and would have dropped out to become a translator for a major airline except they went on strike and it fell through. So my mom can teach little kids.

Dad got drafted, signed up to be a helicopter medic, but thanks to my mom's boss who knew a general who owed her a favor, he got stationed in Monterrey. And if he hadn't, I probably wouldn't be here.
