OT Semester at Sea

A quick question I hope someone can help.

I was in Cape Town a couple of weeks ago and there were students everywhere wearing Semester at Sea t-shirts I assume this is a type of floating university?? it seems like a great idea. Has anyone ever done this? I would love to hear your experiences, I'm from the UK and it's not something I have ever heard of before.
