I am not a big fan of the Iraq war--wasn't in March of 2003 and am not now---But as a professional soldier, as long as the war and the orders were legal, which at my level they clearly were, there was no professional way that I could not carry out my orders to the best of my ability and with extreme prejudice. I was a big fan and am of operations in Afghanistan and I wish that that had been all we had done and had done it well. But my wishes are moot. So, what I was attempting to say, was that if you are going to have a standing military ready to conduct offensive operations that you think are "wise", you have the inherent risk that that military will be ordered to do some things that prove "unwise"
