Disability and gov'ts

Posted by Sheri on 10/5/2005, 11:20:41, in reply to "Re: Tom...Questions about retired SEALs"
Oh, do I understand the problems....

My dh's income is low enough that we qualify for disability for Russ and Greg - sorta. But it's mostly income controlled so... it's not feasible for me to go back to work. Adding in living in the sticks :), gas, clothing, nanny (since without a support worker Russ can't go to daycare), Intensive Behavioural Intervention would be gone b/c I'm not home....

So we get Assistance for Children w/ Severe disabilities - both kids - daycare, mileage, diapers (partial Easter Seals pays the rest and it's not income controlled), drug and dental cards. We also get the Child tax benefit every mth with a disability top up for Russ, the Ont Suppl - which went down since I no longer pay daycare out of pocket, and a disability tx credit on Ed's tx's for Russ. Plus the book money I make doing the farm books leaves him a decent write-off for me as well. This is all grant, less my piddly wages :).

I have to be home 3d/wk, 2d @ daycare for Russ' intensive therapy.... could you imagine if your income was at the cut-off around $50,000/yr. Except for the tx write-off and Easter seals, you'd be totally screwed for funding cause the rest is based on income. And your net income at the end would probably be less than Ed's gross.

Aren't gov't's fun - NOT!!!
