I think it matters what feeds your needs. My DH told me even before we started dating. We were friends and he decided he knew he loved me and wanted it said and on the table because I was moving and he didn't want to miss the opportunity before I left, even if I never felt the same way about him. It took me a few months to realize I felt the same way. But I have always respected his courage and drive to just throw it out there and see what happens. I was never a big one for the words but as I grew into love more and more I started saying them all the time, to my husband, to my child ad nauseum, my friends and my family. Funny how my DH almost never uses the words now, but for him every touch, tease and action flows from his love and the physical expressions are much more important. I think both are needed, so I say it when I feel it no matter the situation.
