there is a lot more

information out there about Hellweek then when I went through--but it is really pretty inconceivable. I mean, we had been through five weeks of surf torture, log PT, boat drills etc etc and we had people quit in the first hours of Hellweek--it is quiet a shock to the system how much already extreme training can be amped up. The extra training I did was essentially on my own as far as 183 was concerned--it had all been with 182--so I had knowledge and could help from that aspect, but didn't have any particular reputation with the class. There were some instructors who were less than fair but it really worked to my advantage in that I never let them get under my skin and, I was a pretty tough guy at the time. I also didn't back down from the instructors either in my knowledge or rank, which had short term consequences but some longterm benefit--when I reported in to BUDS I was wearing my EOD pin. One of the Instructors who met me says "Sir you shouldn't have worn that" I replied that I certainly should have I earned it. He said "So how was EOD school?" I said, "Second hardest school in the Navy" "Really" he says "What's the hardest?" "NUC Power School" I think he was expecting a different answer--like maybe BUDS or something---
