A Zulu is a dance that is performed by Royal Engineers usually drunk (but that could be because I only ever witnessed the ones done in the Sqn Bar)where a group of men sing the Zulu song "haul em down you zulu warrior haul them down you Zulu chief chief chief"
Chosen victim then proceeds to dance while taking off all his clothes. Think the Full Monty and you get the idea.So now you know why Eddie Garwood was arrested near the White House.

The funniest thing was they once did a zulu and when the Orderly Officer came in to do a bar check he took one look at me behind the bar and made me go and sit in the kitchen until it was over. Vince Merrit was the youngets in the Sqn trouble was it was it was winter there was about of foot of snow on the ground and they threw all his clothes out the window (his brother did that)and they wanted him to go out in the snow and get his clothes.A fight nearly broke out between him and his brother until I stood on the bar and and shouted at the top of my voice if they didn't get Vince some clothes I was shutting the bar. Needless to say Vince got his clothes back !!!!

Why a Zulu ?well from what I was told it is in honour of the Zulus and British soldiers killed at Roarkes Drift South Africa in the late 1800's. The officer who took command was one Lt John Merrion Chard, Royal Engineers who on his return was full of praise for the tactical expertise if the Zulu's.

Ahhhh those were the days

Maureen
